The short or long stalls are made to house the sows before and during gestation, while in the meantime avoiding all forms of competition during mealtime. Each sow has an allocated spot, giving each one the opportunity to receive its feed ration. The long stall particularly protect the sows’s flanks, which brings an additional peacefulness at mealtimes.
The pen layout with stalls enables to have a very quiet atmosphere in the rooms. Indeed, after a few days, the sows often lay down in the stalls. The stainless steel trough is lifted up, thus giving a sensation of fresh air to the sow or gilt which is laying in its stall.
